AWS Textract vs Google Cloud Vision OCR (2026)

Two cloud OCR APIs side by side: pricing, free tiers, structured extraction, and where each fits best.

TL;DR

  • Both are developer-only OCR APIs charged per page. Textract fits AWS-native teams; Cloud Vision fits GCP-native teams. Neither is portable to a non-cloud workflow.
  • Plain text rates are nearly identical at ~$1.50 per 1,000 pages. The big divergence is structured extraction — tables on Textract are ~$15/1,000 pages vs ~$30/1,000 on Document AI Form Parser; forms on Textract are ~$50/1,000 pages.
  • Both require IAM, an SDK, storage, and post-processing. If your team is not on AWS or GCP and you want a finished UI with markdown output, see the third-option callout below.
